Local Soccer: Victoria Rangers gave a great confidence booster for manager Mel Williams as they made it maximum points from two games following their re-entry into the Bradford Sunday Alliance top flight.

Hard-working midfielder Steve Pickard got the Division One champions off the ground with both goals in a 2-1 win at Sandy Lane, while Steve Forrest claimed his first Premier hat-trick as Vics beat fellow promotion side Queensbury 4-1 after Queensbury had gone in front through Mick Naylor.

Queensbury had led in their Premier debut from a Naylor penalty at East Bowling Unity before being eclipsed 3-1.

Unity paraded several new signings including Dave Elvidge, the former Green Man forward, who scored on his debut.

Queensbury secretary Nigel Goodison is not too despondent because he is expecting to strengthen his squad shortly.

Champions Oakenshaw, bidding for their third successive title, served notice on the rest of the division by underlining their rating as championship favourites.

Easing in with a never-stretched 4-0 win over Brown Cow, they then became the first side to take their goal tally into double figures with the deadly finishing of four-goal Craig Lawford being too much for Bradford Moor who leaked four second half goals in a 6-2 defeat.

Mick Gilmartin hit the first Alliance hat-trick of the season when he scored five times in Bolton Woods' 7-1 demolition of an under-strength Fairweather Green side. Woods' second win against Hudsons was much harder.

A Mick Burdett penalty after Justin Malone had tripped Lal Corbally saw Woods in front only for Hudsons to equalise immediately when defenders failed to pick up left back John Killick who shunted in from a corner.

Woods always appeared to have more bite and Paul Bulgin proved to be in the right place at the right time when he latched on to a flick on from substitute Dave Morgan for the winner.

Not a good start for last season's runners-up Hudsons who threw away a 2-0 lead forged by Wayne Cotton goals when Bradford Moor came back for a deserved draw with two goals in the last quarter.

On the goal trail with a vengeance are Albion Sports - 4-1 winners over Ventus in midweek. They completed the double with a one way traffic 5-1 win over Brown Cow Wyke, who on early evidence are in for a survival struggle.

Albion have several talented youngsters on their books this season with one of them - Craig Bower - hitting the net twice in both matches.

Albion, looking like they might be the division's dark horses, boast their own Mr Consistency in Taj Singh, a proven scorer for his club for well over a decade. Singh is already on the mark with three goals to his name and there will be few if any to match his Premier tally.
