Bradford City defender John Dreyer, whose future at Valley Parade has been in doubt, has signed a new contract until the end of the season.

Dreyer, 34, thought he might have played his last match for City against Birmingham on Monday when his latest monthly contract ran out.

But he played a major part in City's first league win of the season as a central defender alongside Darren Moore and was called in for talks with manager Paul Jewell and chairman Geoffrey Richmond yesterday.

He said: "I got a phone call yesterday morning. The matter has been resolved and I have signed a contract until the end of the season.

"I am delighted. I will have been at the club for two years next month and I am pleased to be here for another season.

"Maybe the manager thought there would be room for someone with a bit of experience.

"I am really pleased because I didn't want to leave the club. I am nicely settled in the area and it would have been a big upheaval to move."
