Geoffrey Richmond has revealed that Bradford City still have £1 million to spend on players.

The Bantams have smashed their record fee twice in recent weeks with manager Paul Jewell bringing seven players to Valley Parade at a cost of £3.3 million.

However the City chairman says more money is available for transfers.

Richmond said: "We stipulated an amount in the summer and there is still £1 million left from that. However Paul Jewell will not be rushed into making any signings for the sake of it."

Speculation has mounted since City started splashing out about where the money has come from with director Professor David Rhodes rumoured to be playing a major role alongside Richmond.

However when asked whether the club had gone into the red to sanction the spending spree, the City chief said only: "The club have negotiated a facility to fund the outlay we have made and that is all we want to say on the matter."

Rhodes is the executive chairman of Bradford-based electrical company Filtronic Plc and joined the City board in early May.

He had been appointed a director of Bradford City Holdings - which was set up to oversee the running of the club in the run-up to a possible flotation - 11 months earlier.

City's 2-1 win over Birmingham City on Monday, their first league success of the season, pleased Richmond.

He said: "We have said all along that the side will need time to gel and that is definitely the case."

"But we all hope and believe that there will be a climb up the table and by the end of the season we will be either involved in the play-offs or very close."

Richmond is urging City fans to purchase tickets in advance for the trip to Halifax in the second round of the Worthington Cup on September 15.

The Bantams have received around 3,500 tickets for the clash at the Shay and Richmond said: "I believe our allocation will be sold. At the moment we have sold 550 tickets which bearing in mind the game is still two weeks away and tickets have been on sale for only a short period, is extraordinary."

Uncovered terrace tickets costing £8 (concessions £4) and a limited number of stand seats priced at £9 (conc £5). Coaches leave Valley Parade at 6.30pm and will cost £4 (conc £3).

The return leg is on September 22 and normal league prices apply. Season ticket holders have until 5pm tomorrow to reserve their seats.
