Abdul Majid became the first Asian bowler to win one of Bradford's most prestigious tournaments when he captured the Horton Print/Harold Smith Hospital Handicap at Greengates.
Majid, who has only been bowling competitively for Lister Park for two years, delighted the crowd around the green with his fine play.
Majid, who was receiving a handicap of seven, defeated Helen Gilroy in the final who was bidding to be the first female winner of the title, 21-16.
Earlier he had caused a big upset by crushing Birkenshaw's Jonathan Edmondson 21-4 in the quarter finals.
Telegraph & Argus bowls correspondent Jimmy Hearne said: "We were all delighted for Majid. His success was well deserved and we hope his triumph will encourage others."
