Campaigners fighting against proposed housing developments in Addingham take to the streets tomorrow for a 'Walk for Safer Roads'.

The walk, organised by the Addingham Community First group, begins at the Malt Kiln car park at 10.30am and proceeds along Bolton Road and across Manor Garth to finish at the Memorial Hall for coffee.

Organiser Annette Jeffrey said: "We are against any developments which threaten the safety of pedestrians, especially children and the elderly.

"The proposed housing developments in The Croft and Manor Garth will increase traffic and make Bolton Road even more dangerous than it is, and certainly will be when the Middle School merges with the First School."

Under the Unitary Development Plan, the planning blueprint for the Bradford district for the next few years, Manor Garth was identified by the inspector as a housing site.

The small area known as The Croft on Bolton Road is the subject of a planning application for six houses.

It is currently under consideration by Bradford Council planning bosses.

"Our wheelchair citizens and the elderly from the Anyholme Estate and our young children already find Bolton Road daunting," added Mrs Jeffrey, whose home backs onto Bolton Road.

She has invited anyone concerned about extra houses in the village to join in the walk.

Mrs Jeffrey has asked mums or dads to bring prams along but to leave the children at home because of the traffic dangers on Bolton Road.
