Residents are angry about a 19-day closure of a section of Brow Road, Haworth, while a new water main is laid.
They say the first they knew of the work was when the road was blocked off between Victoria Road and Hebden Road.
Contractors working on behalf of Yorkshire Water have permission from Bradford council to work between August 24 and September 13.
However, Jane Leitch claims that because the road has been closed without warning drivers are ignoring the signs. She is also angry that the road was closed during the busy Bank Holiday.
A council spokesperson insists the closure meets legal requirements because it is short-term.
