A record number of organisations applied for donations from the proceeds of this year's Keighley Gala. More than 20 groups will receive cheques at a Court of Queens at Keighley RUFC, Skipton Road, Utley, on September 25, starting at 8pm.
Gala committee secretary Joyce Ashworth says: "Most of the applications were from underfunded groups of volunteers working to help others in various capacities. After much deliberation members decided to allocate monies to small local organisations, giving some priority to those which helped in some way on gala day."
The beneficiaries are: Airedale Hospital haematology department, All Saints 60-Plus Group, Airedale Child Asthma Group, Braithwaite People's Association, Friends of Airedale Child Development Centre, the Handicapped Children's Pilgrimage Trust, 1st Keighley Brownies, 1st Keighley Scouts, Ingrow Scout and Guide Group Council, Keighley Squadron Air Training Corps, Keighley Citizen's Advice Bureau, Keighley Comets, Keighley Disabled People's Council, Keighley District Scouts, Talking Newspaper for the Blind, Keighley Scout Service Team, Lund Park Veterans, St John Ambulance and Keighley Community Transport. Also small amounts will be donated to Bramble Hedge playgroup, World Scout Jamboree participant Emma Bailey, Keighley Drop-In and Woodhouse and Spring Bank playgroup.
