Firefighters have issued warnings after two chip pan fires in Keighley over the weekend.
The first caused smoke damage to a kitchen in Drewry Road and set fire to units above the cooker. Station Officer Mick Smith says the householder had unwisely left the pan on unnattended while not in the room.
Firemen called out to Enfield Street in the early hours of Monday morning discovered a chip pan fire had burned itself out. Mr Smith urges people to take care with chip pans, and ensure smoke alarms are fitted and working.
Local people can now get free fire safety advice - without leaving their home. Officers from Keighley fire station plan to call on every house in the town over the next 18 months. They will offer to carry out a free risk assessment and provide free smoke alarms. Anyone unsure whether a caller is legitimate can phone the fire station on 607401 to verify them.
