Music fans flocked to Bingley's Myrtle Park for a pop extravaganza at the weekend.

Big names at the two-day event spanned the decades, from seventies favourites Hot Chocolate - minus famous frontman Errol Brown - to current act Hinda Hicks. Coronation Street's hairdresser Maxine, actress Tracy Shaw, also put in an appearance.

Despite a wet start to Saturday, hundreds of people turned out for the free Music at Myrtle concert, organised by Bradford Council.

Hot Chocolate topped the bill at the event..

And Sunday's Party In The Park was also a hit, with chart stars such as Kavana, Hinda and Tin Tin Out vocalist Shelley Nelson.

Councillor Colin Gill, who attended the event on Saturday, said it was a resounding success.

"I think people were a bit worried about the weather, but it looked lively," he said. "There was a fair spread of people with a mixture of ages.

"It all looked to have been a success and I think it's something that should be repeated - perhaps earlier in the year."

Last year's Party in the Park did not go ahead as scheduled because of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

The 1998 event will benefit charities including the Lord Mayor's Appeal for BURPS.

Bradford-based radio DJ Mark Page, who hosted this year's show, said the atmosphere was fantastic.

"The crowd was great and we certainly got the numbers," he said.

"All the acts went down very well and there was a lot of talent among the younger bands.

"The atmosphere was fantastic and it certainly bodes well for staging a similar event next year."
