Motor Sport: Frankie Wainman jnr (Silsden) won the stock cars meeting final at Coventry on Saturday.
This was exactly the result Frankie needed with the World Championship final taking place at the same venue a week on Saturday.
He had earlier placed second and fifth in his heats. His main rival and current champion John Lund (Clitheroe) was runner-up while another leading contender, Andrew Smith (Rochdale), won one of the heats.
Andy Turner (Horsforth) won a heat and was second in his other before recording fifth in the final. Also qualifying were Frankie Wainman snr and Richard Mason (Gomersal), Mason finishing tenth.
This was the third round of the nine-round Grand Prix series, Wainman jnr heads the list with a ten point advantage over second-placed Turner.
This coming weekend sees a Grand Prix round at Stoke (Saturday, 6pm).

Baildon rider Steve Patrickson saw his championship hopes diminish after a disappointing tenth in the tenth round of the British 125cc Championship at Silverstone this weekend. Steve still has a mathematical chance of taking the title with two rounds remaining, but finds himself in 5th place in the standings, 44 points behind leader Chris Palmer.
"We struggled all weekend to get the bike working as we wanted. In the early stages of the race, I had to battle my way through a lot of slow traffic, and once I'd done that, the leaders were gone. With the bike still not right I couldn't make it any further up the field" a disappointed Patrickson commented.
Meanwhile a last-lap mistake cost Keighley's Robin Appleyard a place on the podium. After running wide, he could only finish fourth, but as he's placed third in the championship, he still remains optimistic.
