Developers are queuing up to build supermarkets in Bingley with yet another application on its way, making it four in as many months.
The latest venture is understood to have been made by a company, Bradley Double Locks, which has approached Bradford Council asking for guidance over plans to develop an area between Ferncliffe Road and Leonard Street.
There are already three submitted applications under consideration - an £11 million redevelopment of the Myrtle Walk precinct; a £2 million transformation of the Cattle Market site on Keighley Road; and smaller plans for Leonard Street.
Bradford Council confirmed that Bradley Double Locks, of Victoria Works, Victoria Street, Bingley, had contacted the authority to discuss the site. The company declined to comment.
Shipley MP Chris Leslie said: "It is a speculative thing by the development company contractor. It may be that they want to take it though the back of the court to put it at the back of the police station closer to the town centre. What it does show to me is that there's a lot of interest in large scale retail development and there are a lot of companies sniffing around in Bingley. I think it could be a bit cramped on that site though we won't know for sure until there's an application. The local planning committee will have to take great care."
Bradford's Principal Planning Officer Christopher Hughes has made it clear in the past that there is no chance all the applications will be passed.
