AN Ilkley shop assistant was left shocked but unhurt after a man confronted her with a double barrelled shotgun.
The incident took place at about 9.40pm in the evening at the Wine Rack store in Skipton Road.
A man walked into the shop and threatened the assistant with what police believe was a shotgun hidden in a bin liner.
He made off with a quantity of cash and was seen running off towards Middleton Road.
The suspect is a white male, of medium build, and was wearing a black and purple kagoul with the hood up.
Inspector Mick Hopwood of Keighley Police said: "Whilst offences of this sort are thankfully quite rare, it was a very distressing experience for the shop assistant.
"This is an extremely serious crime and I would urge anybody who thinks they may be able to help to get in touch," said Insp Hopwood.
"People may have been in Middleton Road just after the incident took place on Wednesday, September 9. It may be that they could have passed the suspect and would be able to give us a full description.
"Equally, if you think you know who was responsible for this crime, please contact the police immediately," he said.
Anyone who thinks they may have information which could lead to this man's arrest should contact Keighley Police on 01535 617059 or Ilkley Police on 01943 601060.
Alternatively, the Crimestoppers number is 0800 555 111.
