Beer festival organisers are brewing up a bigger and better event than ever this year with more than 50 different tipples.

The Keighley branch of the Campaign for Real Ale expects to sell more than 4,000 pints of beer during the three-day Keighley Beer Festival which kicks off on the evening of Thursday September 24.

It is being held at the town's Worth Brewery and organisers are preparing themselves for at least 1,000 customers.

And a special brew - as yet unnamed - is being created to mark the return of the festival to the brewery after three years at Victoria Hall, Keighley.

Organiser Jenny Baker said: "We hope to have over 50 different draught beers on sale including a selection of Worth beers brewed on the premises, as well as brews from further afield.

"About a third of the beers will be served through hand pumps so, where possible, northern beers can be served with a traditional northern head.

"There will be a selection of ciders and a range of foreign beers, including several from Belgium and Germany."

The festival, first launched in 1986, will also commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Keighley & Worth valley line, where draught, hand-pump beers are sold in the buffet carriage. The railway is holding its own event this weekend.

And to mark the celebration, a souvenir beer festival T-shirt will include a steam engine logo. Musical entertainment will be provided by the duo Two Steps Back on the Friday night.

The festival kicks off on the Thursday evening at 5.30pm. Admission is £1. Friday will see sessions from noon to 4.30pm and 6pm to 11pm. Sessions on Saturday start at 11am until 4pm and from 5.30pm to 10.30pm.

Jenny added: "It is likely tickets for the Friday night will sell out in advance so we do not expect to let people in without a ticket on that evening. It should be possible to pay on the door on Thursday evening and Saturday, although we cannot guarantee this."

Ticket prices are £1 on Thursday, £2 on Friday evening, and £1.50 on Saturday. CAMRA members get in free on Thursday and Friday morning, 50p for other sessions.
