Goalkeeper Gary Walsh says Bradford City have the belief to turn their season around after the 2-1 Worthington Cup second round first leg win over Halifax at The Shay, last night.
Darren Moore and Peter Beagrie grabbed a goal apiece in a victory Walsh claims will boost City after their indifferent start to the Division One campaign.
He said: "We will settle for 2-1. The gaffer said before the game that we had to be positive and I think we did that.
"They had a few chances as well and it was a good game.
"We have quality people in the side - a lot of Premier League players are here.
"We believe in ourselves. Last year we struggled to get a goal and if we went one down then we would probably lose by two or three.
"This year that just isn't the case. We know we are capable of getting a goal and I believe that will help us. Sunday's game at West Brom is a big one for us."
Walsh was on top form at the Shay last night with a string of fine saves helping to ensure that City take a one-goal lead into the return leg.
On the balance of play, the Bantams were full value for their victory although Walsh is adamant what he wants to achieve in the next game.
"A clean sheet is what I want."
He then added: "I think people should give a lot of credit to Halifax as they are a very good team.
"They were much better than Lincoln and I think they were better than a lot of First Division teams.
"If they play like that every week then they will go up.
"I was very surprised and shook all their hands at the end of the game."
City manager Paul Jewell was pleased to come away with a victory although he stressed: "It is only half time."
He then added: "I was disappointed with their goal. It was a poor mistake defensively as the lad got across his man for the goal.
"The players were made aware of that before the game but again we didn't tune in."
