WORK is due to start next month on a re-alignment of Old Lane at Bramhope for better access to the Hilton Grange housing development.
But Bramhope Parish Council is concerned about the effect the roadworks could have on traffic in the area and are to request a site meeting.
Chairman Councillor John Mordy told a meeting of the council: "I think we ought to ask them for a meeting. I think there is a serious problem with the traffic trying to get across from one side of Old Lane to the other.
"It looks as thought there will be temporary traffic lights on the A658. I can see chaos on this one.
"The point is the effect of the roadworks on the Carlton Crossroads."
A spokesman for Leeds City Council said that the aim of the scheme was to improve access to the Redrow Homes Hilton Grange housing development.
He said: "Old Lane is to be re-aligned on the Bramhope side of Harrogate Road and Harrogate Road widened to form a new staggered junction with right turning lanes and street lighting.
"The total cost of the scheme will be met by the developer. The work is programmed to start on site in October and be completed by the end of the year.
"Sections of Old Lane will be closed to through traffic on a temporary basis in the interests of safety during the construction period. Alternative routes will be signposted."
A spokeswoman for Redrow Homes said that the road alterations had been designed and would be constructed by Leeds City Council.
