A delicate subject this week, which I have tackled before, but it is worth repeating.
This week I received three letters from people stating that incorrect addresses had been given for people who had appeared before a court.
I have investigated and confirmed that the addresses we printed were accurately taken from the court lists which we receive.
I have spoken with a senior officer of the court who
carried out a check and would also confirm that the addresses were those supplied by the defendants and indeed where court papers were sent.
However, that doesn't make it any more acceptable to the people who do live at those addresses. An added complication is that I cannot justify repeating the names in the court report.
Without any admission of liability, those affected are: J Newman, of 53 Lister Avenue, Keighley; Dennis Holmes, of 11 Braithwaite Grove, Keighley; and R Ferguson, of 34, Central Avenue, Bracken Bank, Keighley.
I regret any distress caused, but I have to repeat that the information published was accurately taken from the court lists.
The court official was also grateful for the information I passed on. It means they can now follow up the letters and make efforts to trace the offenders concerned and, for example, collect fines.
The official asked people who may be similarly affected in the future to let the court know as soon as possible so that urgent action can be taken.
