Guiseley notched two wins hard on the heels of their 2-2 mid-week draw at Gainsborough and are now some way to playing with the style manager Bobby Davison is aiming for.

The manager was well pleased with the performance of his side which notched wins at Runcorn on Saturday and then at home to league leaders Worksop Town on Tuesday.

This was the first defeat inflicted on Worksop this season.

GUISELEY 3

Manager Bobby Davison made changes for this game at Runcorn following some disappointing results for Guiseley and a scintillating second-half display saw them triumph with Simon Parke netting a hat-trick.

Davison was without the injured Lee Elam, who had scored a brace in the 2-2 mid-week draw at former manager Steve Richards' Gainsborough. He was also without central defender Steve Hook who was suffering illness but Davison dropped long serving right-back Peter Atkinson and put St Kitts international Des Hazel in that role.

He brought Rowland Egege and Stuart Airdrie into midfield alongside Andy Williams who is playing a more and more dominant role in that area this season.

Possession was shared in the early stages and there were few chances at either end.

Runcorn gave away a lot of possession with poor passing.

Guiseley lost central defender Simon Trevitt in the 29th nminute with a knee injury and he was replaced by Simon Phillips.

Player-manager Bobby Davison had an early chance but after rounding the 'keeper his shot from a tight angle was cleared off the line.

In the 52nd minute Guiseley had another chance to open the scoring - Colin Hunter's good run ended with a pass to Davison whose left foot shot was saved.

Parke opened the scoring in the 55th minute when a ball from Andy Williams found the striker in space.

Parke was put through for his second in the 56th minute by Davison and he slipped the ball past the 'keeper.

Runcorn pulled a goal back in the 58th minute when prolific scorer Liam Watson netted but Guiseley restored their margin in the 70th minute when Hunter got to the byline and his cross was headed in by Parke to complete his hat-trick.

Guiseley.- Dickinson; Hazel, Trevitt (Phillips 29 mins), Hogarth, Gallagher; Egege, Airdrie, Williams; Davison (Morrell 85 mins), Parke, Hunter. Sub not used - Nettleton.

WORKSOP 1

Worksop came to Guiseley as league leaders and left with their tail between their legs after being run ragged in the second-half of a thrilling encounter.

Worksop had taken a first-half lead through Phil Stafford in the 40th minute but Guiseley were determined to go into the

break on level terms.

Simon Parke, fresh from his hat-trick at Runcorn, was there to hammer the ball home in the 45th minute.

Guiseley came out for the second-half firing on all cylinders an d all that was missing was manager Bobby Davison's shooting boots.

The veteran striker was set up time and again and he was well disappointed with his efforts to find the target.

However, this did not detract from Guiseley's domination with shots coming in from all angles.

The issue was settled when young midfielder Lee Elam rose majestically to power his header home at the far post after another fine cross from left-back Ben Gallagher, the former Manchester City junior.

Guiseley's back four had something of a strange look about it with Steve Hook ill, Peter Atkinson dropped and Simon Trevitt suffering a knee injury at Runcorn.

Des Hazel retained the right-back spot and Colin Hogarth partnered Simon Phillips in the centre of defence with Gallagher at left-back.

Phillips then sustained a first-half knee injury and former Bradford City youth player Jamie Nettleton came in to join Hogarth in the centre of defence.

Andy Williams was again the lynch pin in midfield shrugging off the back injury which is preventing him from training.

Rowland Egege too played his part in midfield getting a foot in here, there and everywhere as Guiseley fairly buzzed.

Parke is obviously enjoying his success in the striking role and is becoming a big crowd favourite with his ever ready smile and his obvious enjoyment of the game.

Worksop had two players booked as their frustration grew as they chased shadows in the second-half.

Guiseley produced countless chances with Colin Hunter striking from long range to keep Worksop 'keeper Jamie Holmshaw busy.

Davison hit the bar and then hit a clutch of chances wide while further chances also fell to Parke.

All in all it was tremendous stuff from Guiseley and if they continue to play like this then the crowds will surely roll in.

Guiseley.- Dickinson; Hazel, Hogarth, Phillips (Middleton 41 mins), Gallagher; Egege, Elam, Williams, Hunter; Davison, Parke. Subs not used - Airdrie, Morrell.

Guiseley have now played eight games, winning three, losing three and drawing two.

They have scored 15 goals with Lee Elam leading the way with six and Simon Parke having five.

On Saturday Guiseley take on a Leigh RMI side which boasts former Guiseley striker Neil Matthews in its ranks.

Matthews has scored six goals in six games to help his side into second place in the table.

Guiseley then visit Eastwood Town on Wednesday and the following Saturday visit Accrington Stanley.

Guiseley Reserves are having a frustrating start to the season having a blank couple of weeks in their Bolton Alliance Combination League programme.

Their friendly at Atherton LR last Friday night was cancelled but they are hoping to be in action at Nethermoor on Saturday, September 28, when Barrow are due for a 3 pm kick-off.

The youth side also hope to be back in action on Sunday when they entertaion Selby Town at Menston St Mary's RC School.

Their game with much troubled Pickering Town on Sunday was cancelled.
