PLANS for the construction of a cottage in Oxenhope have been granted. Keighley planning sub-committee granted outline permission for a three bedroom detached cottage on land at Holmfield, Jew Lane. Oxenhope parish council says the scheme would affect road safety and be out of character with the Conservation Area and the Special Landscape Area.
The parish council says the standard of access is insufficient and the reasons for refusing a scheme on nearby land still apply. Five other objectors say the applicant has laid claim to land adjoining Jew Lane, that buildings often appear larger than approved and there is too much new building in Oxenhope.
Residents are also concerned that lorries delivering materials will block access to the road. They also stress the potential danger of vehicles reversing down the narrow road.
Councillors noted the objections but said they could not refuse on road safety grounds because highway officials were not opposed.
