Housing associations are to build low-cost houses and flats in Oakworth, Bracken Bank and central Keighley with government cash. Bradford council will be allowed to choose the people who move into at least half the 40-plus homes.
Some of the homes, which are to be built before next April, will be aimed at homeless people or large families including those from ethnic minorities. The government has given around £1 million to housing associations for schemes in the Keighley area.
This is part of a total £6.5 million grant for building affordable new houses for rent and sale, or refurbishing existing properties.
Rental developments will be built in Parkwood Street, Elmwood Terrace and Highfield Lane. Twenty houses will be built for sale in Valley Pasture and Mill Lane, Oakworth.
The schemes aim to cut homelessness, boost estate regeneration and support people with extra needs. The council will sometimes give its land free to associations in order to increase available housing.
