Sea Cadets in Keighley played host to a rare visit from the 'top brass' on Monday.
Vice Admiral Sir Jonathan Todd CBE visited their headquarters in Marley Street and spoke to cadets, parents, and other members of staff. Based in London, he has recently taken over as national chairman of the Sea Cadets.
Keighley Sea Cadets chairman Gladys Briggs told the Keighley News it is rare for a top officer to visit units. "If one visits they say don't expect another for at least ten years," she says. "But the Vice Admiral said he was very impressed and very pleased to be here. He told us that he had enjoyed his visit and that he would come to see us again."
Gladys also says that the Cadets are looking to increase their numbers further. "Lieutenant Margaret Jones took over the group just over 12 months ago and numbers have increased enormously," she says. "But we would still like to see more people."
She is also making an appeal for civilian instructors and any ex-Sea Cadets who may like to help out at meetings. Anyone who is interested should go to the cadet headquarters on a Tuesday evening between 6.30-9.30pm.
