Two men were today recovering in hospital after suffering falls in separate incidents over the weekend.

One man suffered serious back injuries after falling 30ft out of a tree in a pub beer garden.

Ambulance crews were given a police escort to Bradford Royal Infirmary as the ambulance could only travel at four miles per hour because of the man's serious spinal injuries..

The incident took place outside the Roebuck Hotel, in Harrogate Road, Greengates, Bradford, at 6pm yesterday. Steve Carr, manager of the Roebuck Hotel, said he saw the man lying on the floor.

He said: "There were a lot of people round him and it took about 20 minutes for the paramedics to get him into the back of the ambulance. It's a big tree and would have been quite a big fall."

In a separate incident, a teenager suffered back injuries after he plunged 60 feet from a pole.

The 17-year-old, who has not been named, fell in Factory Street, off Tong Street, Bradford, yesterday at 6.40pm.

A West Yorkshire Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokesman said the youth was complaining of numb legs and back pain. He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary.

A 14-year-old Skipton boy was rescued from a ledge 60ft up a sheer quarry face by firefighters. They were called to a disused section of Skipton Rock Quarry off the A59 at Embsay on Saturday afternoon. The boy, who had become too scared to move ,was rescued in a 30-minute operation by fire crew who used a sling to haul the teenager to safety.
