ALMOST 1,000 runners will be contesting the 14th Nuffield Hospital's Horsforth 10k this Sunday when youth and experience will clash in competition for the £200 first prize.
The experienced John Convery, fresh from taking the bronze medal in the Yorkshire Half Marathon Championships on Sunday, and last year's Horsforth winner, takes on student Ian Mitchell, of Longwood Harriers.
Whilst Convery bids for a third Horsforth win, Mitchell has fond memories of the race because two years ago, as a 19-year-old, he stormed home ahead of 600 runners to win at his first attempt at the distance on the roads.
Both athletes will be challenged strongly by three times winner Scott Mitchell (Leeds City), Andy Beevers (Leeds City), Darren Ward (Rotherham) and Julian Moorhouse (Birchfield).
In the Yorkshire Veteran's Championship, Eddie Irving (Bingley) will take all the beating in an entry of 200 runners.
In the women's section Sue Garrod (Goole) is the pick of the early entries to do well in the Open and Veteran's Championships, though any late entries from Leeds City would have to be respected.
Entries are accepted on the day and qualify for prizes and race T-shirts, but prospective entries should note the new race headquarters at
