Fifteen year old Philip Dowgill and Ken Brenkley have won the county's annual pairs merit - a competition hosted by the Keighley club. The duo knocked out Chris and Diane Slater in the semifinal and went on to beat Mick Walsh and Alan Thornber by 21-12 in the final.
SPECIAL awards were made to founder members and players at Keighley Albion's 50th anniversary presentation evening. Jim Coulton, Jack Anlezark, Arthur Jackson, Billy Tallant, Lily Inman and Joyce Kirkley received inscribed glassware. There was also a minute's silence to remember former players and members who had contributed much but who had passed away.
Terry Caddy, who has been with the club since the early 60s, acted as MC and narrated the club's history since 1948. Awards were made to Robert Littler (U15 player of the year), Danny Bowness (fairplay award), Gary Boocock (most improved player), Phil Hunter (A team player of the year), John Normington (players' player trophy), Terry Caddy (clubman of the year), Peter Jeffrey (first team fairplay award), Dean Brookes (firsat team player of the year) and Ian Spencer (first team players'player).
The event was well-attended by many former players and officials and the book about the club's history - Seasons to remember - was on sale for the first time.
KEIGHLEY and Worth Valley Railway are breaking new ground by sponsoring local soccer team Haworth FC. The club's first match in the new kit is tomorrow's Worth Valley derby against Oxenhope.
And Haworth are doing it in style, travelling by train to the match and being entertained afterwards in the line's Real Ale bar car.
Says KWVR's Graham Mitchell: "Although we are not in the same league as Mr Murdoch and Manchester United, the Railway is delighted to be able to support Haworth FC. "We believe we are the first heritage railway to support a football team in this manner."
England ladies cricket Helen Plimmer will be presenting prizes at Upper Airedale junior cricket's presentation evening on Thursday at Cononley CC, 7.30. Players from Haworth and Oakworth are among those receiving awards.
