THE SEARCH is on for village co-ordinator to help organise next year's Addingham Gala.

Because the former organisers had to withdraw because of business commitments and no replacements could be found, the Gala was cancelled much to the disappointment of many people in the village.

At a recent Parish Council meeting, Councillor Alan Jerome said: "It was the first time for many, many years that we did not have a Gala this summer.

"We hope to have one in 1999, making this year just a blip. I just hope that somebody has appreciated the loss to the village."

Parish Council chairman Stephen Crossley-Smith said that someone was needed to co-ordinate the organisation which could be carried out by many village bodies.

"It should not fall on the shoulders of one person," said Coun Crossley-Smith.

Vice-chairman John Baggaley said: "What you need is a lot of organisations feeling that they have a hand in it but you still at the end of the day need a co-ordinator."

Coun Crossley-Smith said the Parish Council would be writing to various organisations in the village to see what support could be enlisted to organise the event next year.

"It has proved over the years to have been a super day," said Coun Jerome.

Anyone who feels they can fill the role of Addingham 1999 Gala Tsar should

contact the Parish Council.
