HERALD readers are being asked to come up for a title for Skipton Properties Brass Band's first ever CD being recorded next month.

The album's theme is showtunes and such gems as Oklahoma, Anything Goes and You'll Never Walk Alone will be laid down on disc in the recording sessions at Ermysted's Grammar School.

The CD marks the culmination of a golden period for the band, which has risen to the Championship Division in the brass-band "league" tables.

While they don't expect to be there long, competing with the likes of the Black Dyke Band, they are recording their talents to celebrate.

Band leader Antony Davies said: "We're like the brass band equivalent of Barnsley. We've made it along with the big boys but we'll have a hell of a job keeping up there.

"In any case, we're looking forward to doing this CD. For the cover we are going to recreate the sleeve of the first vinyl recording, which featured us outside Skipton Castle.

"The new album will be full of show songs but we have been so busy that we haven't come up with a title so it would be great if your readers could help us out."

The time of the recording, October 17 and 18, is one of the band's busiest periods, with a contest at Whitehaven, a concert at Sutton Parish Church on October 24 and the Armistice Parade in Skipton on November 8.

So if you can help ease the band's burden by coming up with a suitable name for their new CD contact Herald reporter Phil Chapman.
