Craven Challenge Cup
First Round
Skipton Bulldogs 3 Rolls-Royce 2
Rolls say they dominated until six minutes from time. Bulldogs report that they took the lead on the half hour with a great header from Andy Bate against the run of play and Rolls levelled directly from a free kick. In the second half Rolls went ahead with a great goal but Bulldogs had the last word with two goals from man of the match sub Mark Critchlow, who crashed the ball home from 10 yards and then struck again when it looked like going to extra time. On target for Rolls were John Driver and James Driver.
Earby 0 Ingleton 6
The homesters played with plenty of heart without really making any chances while Ingleton report that their under-strength side totally dominated. Terry Joel opened the scoring for them after he had been unlucky to have a 25-yard blockbuster saved by Earby keeper Tony Sargent. Lee Lambert then got his first goal for the club and Jonathon Boadle and Robert Dawson also netted before the break. In the second half further goals came from Michael Backhouse and Michael Jeffery.
Grassington 2 Skipton Town 3
The Dalesmen dominated at first without any success and Town scored twice before the break through Chris Fearnley and Bob Smith with a header. Grassington scored in the first minute of the second half through Wayne Doubtfire but then James Monkhouse converted a penalty for Town before David Sharp got Grassington's second.
Dent 2 Sedbergh 4
According to Sedbergh they were worthy winners with the scoreline only being respectable because of their many missed chances. Their scorers were Nicky Ross, Craig Moffat, Paul Capstick and Andy Todd and they say the game was kept going by some very good refereeing. The names of the Dent scorers are not to hand.
Rimington 1 Bradley 3
Bradley began well and looked more likely to score and they took the lead with a well-taken strike by David Scrivener. Bradley were then indebted to keeper Trevor Cox for two excellent saves. In the second half Rimington levelled through Lee Burgess but Bradley came back with two goals, one a penalty converted by James Robinson and the other being scored by sub Neil Henderson.
Colne Utd 6 Carleton 3
Carleton report that after Colne scored first it was all the visitors. Liam Jameson levelled with a 35-yard drive and then put Carleton ahead. After the break Colne levelled and then Paul Cunliffe got a third for the visitors only for Colne to take it to extra time with three minutes left and then score three more times. On target for them were Rodney Lange, four and Geoff Payton, two.
Grindleton 7 Horton 3
The homesters took victory with four goals in extra time - saying their superior fitness levels showed - after it had ended 3-3 after normal time. Damian Greenfield hit a hat trick for Horton while Peter Dakin, Ted Fox, penalty, and sub Scott Fielding saw it go to extra time for Grindleton with David Burgess, Steve Pinder, Mark Wilson and Dakin getting their other four goals.
Bentham 2 Gargrave 9
The homesters battled well and kept it scoreless for some time but once Gargrave scored they went on scoring. Lee Reilley hit four for the winners, Richard Cartman and Johnathan Chapman got two each and Chris Connelly one. On target for Bentham were Tim Wheildon and Lee Young.
Hellifield 2 Embsay 1
This was an excellent all-round performance by Hellifield, who say that for most of the game they outclassed and outworked Embsay. After a scoreless first half Chris Lord put Hellifield in front with a very good header and Mark Webb hit their second with a 25-yard free kick. Embsay got their goal through Wally Robertson with five minutes of the game remaining. Hellifield report that their players and supporters were amazed that the referee played 15 minutes extra in the second half.
Barnoldswick PR 1 Barnoldswick Utd 5
United took the lead when Steve Carling drilled a shot towards the far post which Thomas Boyd latched onto and tapped home. Within minutes Paul Corrigan had increased their lead with a penalty and before the interval Boyd doubled his personal tally to make it 3-0. Park Rovers pushed forward in the second half but to no avail, United's fourth eventually arriving from Corrigan. Boyd then completed his hat trick when he nodded the easiest of chances home. Park Rovers got a consolation goal on the final whistle through Nick Kilgallon. United's best man on the day was Manzar Ditta.
Cononley 1 Kelbrook 3
Kelbrook were soon in their stride, dominating the first 15 minutes, but as Cononley started to settle the game was more even. John Allan put Kelbrook ahead and then Tony Longworth levelled for the home side. Half chances were created at both ends in the second half but Kelbrook went on to add two more goals through Craig Walton and Mark Timmins.
