More than a dozen events have already been put forward for next year's Keighley Festival.
The 15-strong committee has fixed the date as June 13-27 and is inviting local groups and individuals to come forward with their ideas for events. A ceiling of £400 is likely to be set on each event to avoid a repeat of this year's arguments over funding.
Organisers plan to open the 1999 festival with a major event in town hall square featuring a celebrity, giant display screen and band performances. The closing day would be devoted to sports at Marley, including cricket, kabadi and a Keighley Lions cycle race.
Other proposed events are a five-a-side football match on June 20, vintage car event at East Riddlesden Hall, treasure hunt, tea dances, pub quiz, horse display and majorettes competition.
The festival committee has decided to keep the name 'Keighley Festival' despite suggestions that a name change would improve its image and attract more people.
