Windhill could find itself on the tourist trail if the plans of two brothers to use it as a setting for a television series come to fruition.
Simon and Chris Ormondroyd are celebrating today after their book - which they wrote and published themselves - went straight into the Dillon's best-sellers list at number 15.
Now the pair have their heart set on making it into a TV mini-series, using Windhill as a setting and putting the district firmly back on the map.
The brothers were brought up in Windhill in the 1960s and had for a long time nurtured strong memories of their exploits as children, playing among the derelict mills and the embankment of the old single-line railway.
For years they have dreamt of turning their adventures into a series for television - but the first hurdle was to write it all down. So in April this year, they spent three days in Spain to gather their thoughts - and three months later Windhill Tales was produced.
Simon, 42, who now lives in Thackley, said: "It's a novel but it's based on our observations of when we were younger - a romp about times when kids could play out and families were moving out of the inner city.
"It's got plenty of nostalgia and it's written in a Yorkshire dialect - there's a lot to make it appeal to a wide audience."
Simon, who has worked in television making commercials for the past 25 years, runs his own production company, Wait and See, which published Windhill Tales. His brother, Chris, is a former journalist.
