Pool AFC 2 KILLINGHALL NOMADS .0
HAVING disposed of the previous three teams at the start of this action packed season with ease Pool welcomed Second Division Killinghall for this first round League Challenge Cup tie.
As usual Pool failed to take early control and were lucky to go in at the break on level terms.
Wayward passing and poor finishing were a thorn in Pool's side.
The back four of Ingle, Smithson, Healey and Payne were once again untroubled by their opponents' long ball game and the midfield pairing of Field and Greenwood produced some fine through balls for wingers Taylor and Myers.
It wasfrom an inspired piece of wing play that Pool struck gold.
Midway through the second-half Payne found Joyce on the wing and his fancy footwork and pin-point cross found Field who prodded the ball home at the near post.
Chances went begging with Joyce and Wilson going close on numerous occasions and Pool 'keeper Ed Neale was a virtual spectator.
Pool's second and best goal was the product of a wonderful piece of team play with almost every player in the side touching the ball. It came to Greenwood on the edge of the box and his deft flick found Field in space and he netted with a thunderous shot from 25 yards.
Pool are starting to play some attractive football this season and are currently riding on the crest of a wave.
Match point went to Wilson.
Pool A 1 Pateley Bridge 4
Pool thirds started well and then a defensive error allowed Pateley in to score.
Shortly after a dubious penalty was conceded and Paul Wilkinson saved twice before the ball finally went into the back of the net.
Pool played some of their best football in the latter stages of the first-half and this resulted in a well driven cross by Chris Tweedie being fired home by Matthew Trimnell.
The second-half was disappointing for Pool with few chances created.
A bullet header from an unmarked player at the far post made it 3-1 and Wilkinson made another save from a penalty but again the follow up was rifled in. Match point went to Paul Wilkinson
Pool U-16s 1 Rawdon U-16s 3
Pool entertained Rawdon in their third league game of the season. Rawdon started the brighter and soon had Pool on the defensive.
A mistake in the Pool defence let in Rawdon for the opening goal but this only stung Pool into action and they levelled when Keddle's free-kick took a deflection on its way into the net.
The game was scrappy with passes going astray and tackles mistimed and it was Rawdon who took the lead again.
A mistake by Palmer let the Rawdon forward in to score. After some strong words at half-time Pool tried to get back into it but with so many players having an off day and Keddle and Heyes hitting the bar it was Rawdon who took the points.
Pool must get back to the basics if they are to challenge for honours and they must learn to work for each other for the whole game instead of throwing in the towel when things don't go right. Match point went to Alistair Scott who at least looked to be interested in the game.
