Ilkley were deserving winners in this bruising encounter with their hosts.
The Ilkley scrummage was very strong thanks to Richardson, Gomersal and Riley. The side was well led by skipper Beer.
Tries came from old hands Riley (2), Broadley and Hughes but there were some thrilling moments provided by the newer recruits such as Hepplewhite and Duckenfield.
Selman thoroughly deserved man of the match for his tireless rucking and mauling. He also set up two of the tries.
West Park Bramhope U-11s 14 Ilkley U-11s 12
THE Ilkley boys played some excellent and committed rugby against a powerful home side and were desperately unlucky to lose by two points.
The forwards were superb throughout the game and won possession from the scrums, in the loose and from the lineouts, in spite of playing against a larger pack.
Josh Cockerham, Thomas Atkinson and Ifan Morgan helped form a solid front row with both Christian Flynn and Stuart Connel hooking superbly.
Adam Brown, Henne Strong and Anthony Bradley provided the power from the second row.
Charlie Wood supplied the backs with sufficient ball but they failed to penetrate the opposition lines.
The direct running of Callum MacGregor, James Starkey and Simon Panteli was inspirational.
Daniel Holden's positioning was excellent and he caught a number of high kicks and led counter attacks.
Despite all their pressure the boys conceded two tries and found themselves trailing 14-0.
Showing real spirit they fought back and, prompted by Andrew Rhodes' tactical kicking, scored two tries.
Joel Monkman crossed the line for the first try. The conversion attempt was missed.
Jonathan Simmons scored the second try following a superb run. This was converted by Joel Monkman.
Despite this narrow defeat the boys can look forward to the season with confidence.
West Park Bramhope U-12s 26 Ilkley U-12s 21
ILKLEY U-12s can count themselves unfortunate after narrowly losing the season's opener.
The home side took the lead but Ilkley fought back. Lewis Watson ran down the blind side and fed the ball to Tom Harrison. He scored and Watson converted.
Just before half-time Watson was held up just short of the line but Daniel McNiece followed up to score. Tom Harrison converted the try.
West Park added another try at the start of the second half but Ilkley came back again.
Tom Harrison kicked upfield, West Park fumbled the ball and Ben Leong gathered the loose ball and scored. Richard Greenfield converted. However, West Park scored further tries from penalty situations to claim victory.
Ilkley's two new players Ben Hughes and Chris Stansfield put in good performances.

AFTER a shaky start against much bigger opposition, Ilkley controlled most of the game.
Tom Monkman gained possession time after time in the ruck and tackled fiercely.
Matthew Foster, Jonathan Stapleton and Jamie Chiekh provided good support and Ilkley were unlucky to fall behind five minutes before the interval.
Ilkley applied all the pressure at the start of the second-half, and defended well, but could not put points on the board. West Park then scored two quick tries.
Ilkley stuck to their task and were rewarded by an outstanding try from Matthew Tosh in the last minute. Tom Monkman was man of the match.

CREDIT should be given to the Ilkley team for the commitment shown throughout this game.
The visitors started strongly and Ilkley fell behind after only four minutes.
Ilkley were at full stretch for the whole match and two further West Park tries before the break looked inevitable.
The Ilkley defence worked hard. At times Ilkley looked good on the break but lapses in concentration allowed West Park three further tries in the second period.
Credit particularly goes to Sam Sheadie, who was taken to hospital after a shoulder injury in the first-half.
