THERE was an entry of 39 cars in the Ilkley and District Motor Club Jubilee Historic Car Rally.

These dated from a 1953 Jowett Jupiter to a 1973 Opel Kadett Rallye.

This year's rally was sponsored by The Classic Car Group of Otley and was won by Lancastrians Pete Tyson and Neil Harrison in their 1967 Mini Cooper S.

Second were Pudsey's Dean Jackson and Dominic Barron in the newly acquired 1967 Ford Escort. They also took first expert award.

Finishing third was last year's winner Adam Wiseberg in his 1969 Mini Cooper.

First semi-experts were Andrew Down and Richard Lambley in the 1964 MG Lenham Midget and first novice was Ilkley member Colin Valentine with R Murtha in the 1967 Sunbeam Stiletto. This car also won the award for the best turned out car which was judged by Richard Newsholme of Classic Car group.

Nigel Sykes and Nigel Bottomley of Horsforth won the Best Ilkley Crew award in their 1963 MG 1300.

The rally started at the club's headquarters at Pool Mills Social Club and the route took the competitors on a 150 mile trip round the Yorkshire Dales with lunch at Coniston Hall, a cup of tea at Stump Cross Caverns and a return to Pool for tea and the results.

There were a lot of spectators at the various driving test venues.

This was the seventh year of the event which receives continued support from drivers who commented favourably on the excellent organisation and atmosphere of the event.

On Sunday the Otley club will run their ANCC event at Carr Side Farm and the same venue will be used in the afternoon for Ilkley's own half-day production car trial. The afternoon event starts at 1 pm.
