THE "hanging gardens of the Bay Horse pub" in Market Place, Otley have won two awards in

the Leeds In Bloom summer competition.

Landlord Vernon Marston takes great pride in his floral display and has won awards for the past four or five years.

This year the pub has won the 'Premier Trophy for restaurants and pubs' and the 'Gold Award' for best public house. Mr Vernon said he was very pleased with his awards and thanked green-

fingered customers who helped him win the award, picking out Andy Forrest for praise.

The flowers help raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, as customers are asked to make donations by dropping coins into the pub's wishing well.

Chair of Leeds Floral Initiative, Coun Denise Atkinson said: "I would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition. The city has been looking great all summer and this is largely due to the efforts made by property owners large and small who have worked so hard to decorate their premises with flowers."
