SPENNYMOOR 1
SIMON Parke hit a stunning last minute goal to give Guiseley the points against Spennymoor on Tuesday.
The win saw Guiseley climb three places in the UniBond Premier League table.
Spennymoor had snatched a 39th minute lead when full-back Carl Beasley drilled the ball home following a free-kick after a defensiove error by Guiseley.
Colin Hogarth played the ball back to 'keeper Steve Dickinson who absent mindedly picked the ball up to concede a free-kick.
Guiseley went into the break on level terms when David Cooke made a break on the left and his shot took a defelcetion into the net.
The game looked to be ending in a draw when Parke pulled one out of the hat with a magnificent long range shot which had 'keeper David Campbell well beaten as the big striker notched his seventh goal of the campaign.
ACCRINGTON STANLEY 2
GUISELEY 0
A lack lustre Guiseley display at Accrington on Saturday saw them lose all the momentum created by their recent good run. They were more often than not second to the ball, made mistakes in defence and lacked punch up front as Accrington deservedly took the points.
For all that Guiseley still created plenty of chances with Lee Elam a real livewire.
Colin Hunter picked up a knee injury in the mid-week 3-1 President's Cup win at Eastwood Town and was replaced by British Universities player David Cooke. With manager Bobby Davison still suffering from the calf muscle injury he picked up at Eastwood Mick Morrell, a two goal substitute at Eastwood, came in to partner a subdued Simon Parke, who scored the othjer goal in the cup win.
Central defenders Simon Trevitt and Steve Hook had still not recovered from injury and illness respectively so James Nettleton and Colin Hogarth continued in the centre of defence.
Guiseley created a couple of early chances with a stretching Morrell just unable to get to a Lee Elam cross. At the other end Tony Black was causing problems but he fired wide with one shot and straight at 'keeper Steve Dickinson with another.
Dickinson then made a brilliant save from Billy O'Callaghan. Elam made another good break for Guiseley racing away to the byline and then getting a cross in which nobody met.
Simon Parke did well to control a goal kick from Dickinson and get a shot in but his effort was turned over for a corner. Morrell was presented with another chance by Rowland Egege but from virtually on the goalline he could not stick the ball in the net.
Disaster struck for Guiseley when Colin Hogarth passed back to Dickinson and Black nipped in to lift the ball over the 'keeper into the net in the 40th minute.
Early in the second-half Elam's low cross was met by Parke who forced a save from Jamie Speare in the Stanley goal.
There was no real direction to Guiseley's play, Long, hopeful passes and no real control marked their effort as they struggled to gain any control in midfield. Andy Williams battled gamely to hold things together but had little support.
When Guiseley did attack more often than not the final pass was not good enough.
Elam was certainly their star player and he got in another shot from long range and then had a header taken by the 'keeper. A good move involving Hazel, Williams and Cooke ended with Parke swinging wildly at Cook'e s cross and missing.
Guiseley had a let off when Black pulled his shot wide with the goal gaping.
In a bid to change things round manager Davison threw on midfielder Stewart Airdrie for Morrell and pushed Elan further up front
O'Callaghan forced a save from Dickinson but Guiseley failed to heed the warning and another defensive slip let O'Callaghan in to score from close range in the 75th minute.
Peter Atkinson replaced Cooke in the 83rd minute and he and Airdrie linked well in a couple of runs.
The only credit Guiseley took from this performance was that they were still creating chances right to the end with wil 0'the wisp Elam the star man.
Guiseley.- Dickinson; Hazel, Nettleton, Hogarth, Gallagher; Egege, Elam, Williams, Cooke (Atkinson 83 mins); Morrell (Airdrie 66 mins), Parke. Sub not used - Davison.
