The coach picks up at Hartington school, Haworth at 10am and drops runners off at the start at Wycoller country park. The nine miler traces the Way back to a Haworth finish. Pudsey and Bramley's Gary Oldfield (49.43) and Bingley's Carol Greenwood (57.12) set records last year.

Keighley and Craven's Wednesday night run for seniors has now switched for the Winter months to roads in South Craven. Runners should meet each week at the White Lion, Kildwick, at 6.30pm.

The 20th annual open XC promoted by Skipton AC takes place tomorrow in Aireville park, Skipton. The U11s kick off the series of races at 11.30am. Ring David Gardt on 01756 794950 for details.

Almost 350 boys and girls from 28 schools competed in Bingley's cross country event in Myrtle Park.

The young Athlete Development event is supported by the English XC Association and sponsored by Bradford and Bingley Building Society and the Sportsmatch Scheme. Help with refreshments were also given by McDonald's of Keighley.

The hope is that some of these youngsters will be encouraged to take up athletics and join a local club. Local winners included:

Year five and six - girls, Lucy Mayho (Parkside); boys, David Wellard (Parkside); girls team, Parkside.

Year seven and eight - girls, Rebecca Long (Bronte), boys, Sam Clegg (Bronte); boys team, Bronte; girls team, Parkside. Year nine and 10 - girls, Helen Glover (Oakbank); girls team, Oakbank.

K&C's West Craven-based runner Karen Slater got her Yorkshire vets 10k challenge off to a winning start on Sunday. She finished fourth overall - and first vet - at Horsforth which doubled as a Yorkshire vets championship race.

Bingley's Carol Greenwood was three and a half minutes clear of the next woman, Rochdale's Glynda Cook, at Saturday's Thieveley Pike race, near Burnley.
