A SHOW which the Ilkley Gazette helped to save from potential disaster is well on course for success.
Ilkley Amateur Operatic Society's production of Me And My Girl opens at the Kings Hall on October 26.
Regular Gazette readers will remember the show was in danger of being staged as Me By Myself, when the original leading lady was forced to pull out.
Becky Cocker answered the cry for help and is busy rehearsing for the opening night. Becky will play opposite Mark Simister, the man who made the desperate plea for help in the Gazette.
They play Cockney sweethearts who take on the aristocracy when Bill discovers he is the rightful heir to a title and fortune.
They are currently spending four nights each week making sure everything is ready for October 26.
Mark, delighted the show is going ahead, said: "Bill Snibson is a gem of a part. I played the role last year in David Kirk's successful production for Horsforth Grove and I am very lucky to have the opportunity once again. The show has so much appeal."
Becky, who has appeared with Ilkley Up-Stagers, is looking forward to the big night. "Sally Smith is a gutsy little character and I'm loving every minute of rehearsals. We've got some terrific dance routines and I can't wait to get on the stage and start the show," she said.
Ticket information for the show, which includes numbers such as The Lambeth Walk, can be obtained from Ilkley Tourist Information Centre on 01943 602319. The show runs until October 31.
