And to be the best the Cowling brothers, who both go to South craven school, have had to travel the length and breadth of the country.
Their 'local' club is in Huddersfield and to compete in the six-round British series has taken them to Kent twice, to Pickering in North Yorkshire, to Preston and Ches-hire, as well as a 'home' round in Huddersfield.
But the travel was worth it after Lee clinched the 125cc, nine to 14 years' title and James claimed third in the 250cc, 14-16 class.
And the winning doesn't stop there.
They've both won national best pairs titles in the Cotswolds recently - Lee with Richard Hall, from Bedale, and James with Paul Cooper, of York.
