Chairman Geoffrey Richmond today appealed to Bradford City supporters not to go into the home sections of Elland Road at this month's Worthing-ton Cup third round tie against Leeds United.
With City set to sell their allocation, Bantams supporters who cannot buy tickets for the away stand might be tempted to go into the home areas when the clubs meet on Wednesday, October 28.
But Richmond said: "Although I am disappointed that our allocation is only 5,500 I would ask our fans who are not able to buy tickets for our section of the ground not to sit in the areas reserved for home supporters.
"That would only mean potentially serious trouble on the night and both we and Leeds United are very anxious that there should be no problems at the match."
City had hoped for 15,000 tickets but have been told they can have only a third of that number because of safety concerns.
Richmond said: "Leeds United made representations to the police, stating strongly that our allocation is inadequate. I am grateful to their chairman Peter Ridsdale for the efforts he and others made on our behalf."
City's allocation went on sale at Valley Parade on Friday and such is the interest that after a rush on ticket sales yesterday they have fewer than 2,000 left today.
Family tickets, not available on Friday, went on sale yesterday, offering seats for two adults and two children for £35. Normal match tickets are £15 adults and £10 concessions. The tickets go on general sale on Friday morning and will be available before the match against Bury that evening.
However, Richmond forecast: "There will be few if any tickets available for non-season ticket holders although we are getting non-stop inquiries from those who don't have season tickets.
"It means that a lot of genuine supporters are going to be disappointed. I feel desperately sorry for our disappointed fans. The club made extensive efforts to have our allocation increased."
Defender Ashley Westwood, who has been out for more than five weeks with an ankle ligament injury, is back in training.
Manager Paul Jewell said: "Ashley joined in training with the young players yesterday and he is training with the senior players today. He may be fit to play in part of tomorrow's reserve match at Huddersfield depending on how he feels."
City picked up no new injuries in their impressive 0-0 draw at Sunderland.
"Everyone is happy," said Jewell. "I have said all along we will get better. We are not there yet by a long way, but we are getting there."
