FA Cup: Guiseley 2, Thackley 1.

Quality goals from Simon Parke propelled Guiseley into the FA Cup Third Qualifying round at the expense of Thackley, but they will need to show sharper finishing to advance further in the competition.

Guiseley deserved their 2-1 success over their Northern Counties East League neighbours in last night's replay at Nethermoor to set up a home tie against UniBond League rivals Chorley in the next round on October 17, but they made hard work of their victory.

Parke, who has scored 9 goals in the last 11 matches and 10 all together this season said: "Overall our performance was good but the finishing was not what it could be.

"I was delighted to score two and was looking for my hat-trick but it was not to be.

"We have got a nice mixture of youth and experience at Guiseley this season and it would be good to have a crack at a league side in the cup."

The 26-year old Bradford-based striker gave Guiseley the perfect start, putting them ahead after six minutes with a curling left-foot shot into the far corner after Lee Elam had seen his shot blocked.

The goal was just reward for Guiseley's bright start and they continued to dominate the first half with some flowing football. But they could not add to their lead despite having the lion's share of possession.

Andy Williams provided an opening for Elam but he shot straight at keeper Garry Cox after 19 minutes.

Colin Hunter played the ball inside for left back Benn Gallagher who forced Cox to make a diving save on the half hour and then Williams saw his 25 yard lob flash only inches over the crossbar when Thackley's defence failed to clear Hunter's corner after 35 minutes.

Thackley stuck doggedly to their task and made Guiseley pay for their misses on the stroke of half-time when a rare mistake by Gallagher gave them a corner.

Lee Poole's corner found Thackley's ace goal poacher Stuart Taylor at the far post and he headed the equaliser.

Guiseley took charge again at the start of the second half and after sub Craig Bower saw his goal-bound shot cleared off the line by defender Darren Hamer, they regained the lead with the best goal of the match.

Elam found Parke with a long pass through the middle and he flicked the ball over the head of Cox before volleying into the net for what proved to be the winner after 53 minutes.

Both sides had further chances but Thackley came nearest to scoring when Steve Dickinson was forced to make a point black save to deny Taylor his second goal while Andrew Carlton fired wide with the goal at his mercy.

Halifax Town won the JC Thompson Championship Shield - the Charity Shield of the Conference beating Cheltenham 1-0.
