There was a mixture of delight and anger today as voluntary groups were told whether Bradford Council would grant them cash.
The full list of grants, published for the first time today, shows how about a third of the applications were rejected due to a lack of Council cash.
Others were delighted to get a share of the £1.2 million budget set aside for voluntary sector grants.
Among those celebrating were four organisations in Holme Wood: Holme Wood Activity Centre, Holme Wood Consortium, Holme Wood Kidzone and Holme Wood Toy Library, who scooped more than £75,000 between them.
Helen Austin, from Kidzone, which was set up five years ago to provide before and after-care for schoolchildren and holiday activities, said it was excellent news.
"It will give us more security long term. It's also recognition that we are a quality service. If we hadn't got it, we would have been struggling next year."
Other successes included the homeless project Bradford Nightstop which received £39,740.
Vice chairman the Rev Geoff Reid said the money would be put to good use.
"There are more people homeless than we can provide homes for. We are hoping to develop the service out to Keighley and Shipley," he said.
Yesterday the T&A reported on the organisations whose applications had been rejected.
They included the award-winning Asian Disability Network which is now set to close in March through lack of funding, despite its huge success among Asian families dealing with a disability.
It is among several groups which will now appeal to the Council hoping the decision will be overturned.
Councillor Ralph Berry said about £200,000 has been set aside for groups which successfully appeal for cash.
Each of the applications was considered on a points system - a controversial scheme introduced last year amid much demonstration from long-standing organisations which were turned down flat.
Now each group, whether just started or well-established, competes alongside the rest for points.
Some such as the Bradford Relate Centre and CHAS Housing Aid were turned down despite high scores because they already receive core funding from the Council.
Councillor Ralph Berry, chairman of the community development committee, said: "Bradford has the second largest community grant budget of any local authority in the UK."
He added: "This year, the procedure was simplified to make it easier for small groups to obtain grants. Two out of five groups applying for grants of less than £10,000 were successful, compared with one in four last year.''
