TRAFFIC chaos came to Skipton this week with traffic backed up all the way from the mini roundabout being constructed outside Morrison's on Broughton Road all the way back to the canal bridge on Keighley Road.
So bad was the traffic congestion that when a small fire broke out at Whitaker's Chocolates, Silsden was asked to attend as the firemen from Skipton were unable to get to the station in time.
The work seems to have been dragging on for an inordinate amount of time, although the actual roundabout itself went up in less than a week.
And all for the benefit of shoppers at Morrison's. At least the company paid for the works. There are far worse spots in the town for traffic - getting out of Craven Street and Carleton Road being prime examples - but with no fairy godmother able to foot the bill, nothing will be done.
