AN ILKLEY butcher's sausages have been voted the best in Yorkshire - and it is not the first time David Lishman's bangers have run away with the prize.
In the last four years Lishmans, of Leeds Road, have won the Great Yorkshire Sausage Competition three times. The success, against 160 other entrants, puts them in to the national finals of the competition early next year to find the best banger in Britain - where previously Lishman's sausages have been runner-up.
David Lishman said: "We are extremely pleased as it is such a tough competition."
And the secret of their success? "We raise our own rare breed Saddleback and Tamworth pigs which give an old fashioned flavour which is far superior to the intensively raised supermarket product."
