Northumberland Jnrs 2, West Riding 3
JONATHAN LONSDALE led West Riding Under-18's to a classy 3-2 victory over Northumberland in the second round of the County Youth Cup.
Jonathan, a member of the Cross Hills club, plays left back with the county side and saw his team clinch revenge for defeat by Northumberland in last year's final.
West Riding survived the sending off of keeper Ian Watson (Harrogate) in the 40th minute for a professional foul.
"The 10-man side were simply magnificent. This was the best performance by a West Riding Youth side in the last 10 years," declared committee member Reg Allwood.
Lonsdale was joined by Silsden player Andrew Holden in mid-field and both local players turned in superb performances.
Holden showed his skill early in the game with a burst which took the game half the length of the field, but there were no takers for his threatening cross.
Deep in first half injury time he made another electrifying run down the right and pulled a cross back for Kendall, but his blistering shot flew just over the bar.
Lonsdale was always in the thick of the action at left back.
In the third round West Riding meet the North riding FA at Whitby Town on Saturday, December 5, ko 1.30pm.
