Surprise result of the week in the Keighley & District Table Tennis League must be the 8-2 victory enjoyed by Nomads 'D' against their 'B' team.

Michael Wrigley, adjusting well to his first season in Keighley, enjoyed a storming performance, taking the opposition apart at will. He ended the evening with an impressive 21-17, 21-18 defeat of Martin Conolly after polishing off both Pete Midgley and Edgar Klava along the way, the 'D' teamer lead his troops superbly. Pete Kitching weighed in with three of his own including a 22-20, 21-15 success against Klava and 12 year old Mathew Lister, playing with maturity and determination, got the better of both Midgley and Conolly in three before losing unluckily to Klava 19-21, 24-22, 21-18.

The Nomads 'C' team also hit the heights against Ukrainian 'B'. Tony Boyd played well to register a full house, but it was Geoff Bartlett, back to his best following last season's injuries, who took the eye with an exciting 18-21, 22-20, 21-11 defeat of classy Peter Holbrook who in turn managed the Ukrainian's sole success by beating Neil Foley 21-11, 21-15.

Champions Ukrainian 'A' were pushed all the way by South Craven 'A' who were grateful to John Lister for half their points in the 6-4 defeat. Steve Rutherford had a mixed evening for the Ukrainians. Following easy wins against John Lister 21-9, 21-13 and Dale Green 21-13, 21-14, he then slipped up 21-16, 21-10 at the hands of James Lister. However, good support from Steve Taylor and Paul Farley with a couple each guided the Champs to a win.

In Division Two Phil Dunderdale played his first match of the season for Cononley Sports and promptly won all three, including a 21-18, 21-18 win against Michael Mitchell, to give his team the impetus to register a 7-3 success. Mitchell managed two of his sides three points with wins against Stuart Maude and Eric Hudson but a doubles triumph was the only other consolation for the woolmen.

Airedale Terriers 'D' appear to have unearthed a gem in Steve Wands. This week, following successes in earlier matches against such seasoned players as Mick Cawkwell and Paul Lister, the Terrier dominated the South Craven 'B' players to such an extent that none scored into the teens against him. A Steven Cann brace against Jane Boyes and Hugh Bevington were the only South Craven successes on a disappointing night for the school boys.

Although Azeem Khan was the only player on both sides to grab a full house, he couldn't stop his South Craven 'B' team from shuddering to defeat at the hands of a steady Airedale Terriers 'B' outfit. John Driver and Paul Waddington notched two each in their side's 6-4 win.
