DANNY SPILSBURY lit the fuse on Keighley Boxing Club's annual show-- with one explosive punch.

It took the rising teenage prospect just 20 seconds to knockout Chris Hatlett in the first round.

Spilbury's devastating performance also won him the Phoenix Trophy for the best boxer of the evening. Gary Felvus, who boxed for England 20 times between 1978 and 1982 judged the award and made the presentation.

Felvus was also impressed by the talents of youngster Matthew Booth who outpointed Bridlington's Nigel Clougherty and won the Danny Brothers Memorial Trophy for the best technical boxer of the night.

There were also splendid victories for Keighley's senior boxers Paddy Todd and Paul Connell who made it a clean sweep for the Keighley contingent. Todd beat Denaby's John Berringham in a toe-to-toe encounter and Connell won by a slightly wider margin against Bridlington's Steve Hutchinson.

Best of the other contests was a fight between Bradford's Billy-Joe Elam and Chris Hall of Derbyshire who won the 'best loser' award.

Other special guests at the event, held in conjunction with Keighley Catholic Youth, were Keighley Rugby League Hall of Fame personality Terry Hollindrake and football star Lee Duxbury.
