DONCASTER ROVERS...3
Guiseley.......................1
GUISELEY started their FA Cup qualifying fourth round tie at Doncaster well in a bruising opening spell in which Peter Atkinson stood out.
Simon Parke returned to the Guiseley side after tonsillitis but he was really only a shadow of his former self despite trying hard.
Gone were his dreadlocks and with them some of his strength.
A superb run by Andy Williams set the Guiseley support alight.
His long meandering run down the left ended with a pass to Rowland Egege whose shot was blocked.
Egege then put a shot from a Benn Gallagher free-kick into the side-netting before Simon Parke got in a good effort from all of 30 yards.
All this early pressure came to nothing and Guiseley suddenly seemed to switch off.
They were also caught offside a number of times which added to their frustration.
Doncaster then enjoyed a purple patch with Glenn Kirkwood's shot turned round by Steve Dickinson, who then took a header from Colin Sutherland.
A swerving shot by Dino Maamria went just over the bar as Doncaster pressed.
Parke was booked for kicking the ball away in the 22nd minute before Maamria got in another header which Dickinson took.
Hogarth made some good clearances but he put his 'keeper in trouble with a back pass which Dickinson did well to retrieve.
Hogarth then sustained a painful foot injury and after lengthy treatment on the sidelines returned to the field just as Doncaster were awarded a corner.
No one covered the limping Hogarth and he was unable to push himself off to get above his man and Ian Durden rose to head past Dickinson on the 45th minute.
At the start of the second-half Mick Morrell replaced the ineffective Egege but it made little difference as Guiseley had lost their momentum and Doncaster were in the ascendancy.
The crowd of 2,495 saw Doncaster increase their lead in the 60th minute when Guiseley's inability to cope with set pieces saw Glenn Kirkwood given virtually a free header.
Woeful marking at the back was again exposed when Duerden bagged his second goal just two minutes later.
Gallagher was booked for tackle from behind and then James Nettleton was replaced by Stephen Hook in the 65th minute, but it was a little too late for the big man to change the game.
Guiseley pulled a goal back in the 70th minute when Lee Elam came in at the far post to head in a Benn Gallagher cross after a good run by Colin Hunter.
It was all a little too late by Guiseley who had not done themselves justIce on the day.
A hallmark of their previous cup battles with Conference sides has been their fighting spirit but not much of that was seen on this occasion.
