Remembrance Day brought back memories for a Long Lee couple who have made two emotional visits to their grandfather's grave in France.
Keighley man Private Luke Parle served with the Duke of Wellington Regiment during the First World War. He was killed in action at the Battle of the Somme on September 14, 1916. His remains now lie in the Lon-sdale War Cemetery at Albert, 70 miles south of Dunkerque.
Robert and Joan Hobson, who live in Redwood Close, first made the trip three years ago after their son Robert traced the grave, pictured above. They made the journey again last year.
"We knew he had been killed but did not know where his grave was," says Joan. "It was very emotional."
Private Parle was believed to have been in his early 30s at the time of his death. "But many of those buried at the cemetery were only teenagers," she says. "There are some stones that don't even have names on. They just say 'known only to God'."
