A family friend of Bradford businessman Nissar Ahmed today appeared in Court charged with his murder.

Zahid Iqbal, 30, spoke only twice during the 15-minute-long hearing at a special sitting of Dewsbury Magistrates' Court.

Dressed in a grey suit, Iqbal, speaking through an interpreter in Punjabi, confirmed his name and his address as Brooklyn Road, Cleckheaton.

Hazel Darnton, prosecuting, told the court that Iqbal was charged with the murder of 34-year-old Mr Ahmed, a father-of-six, of New Cross Street, West Bowling.

She said Mr Ahmed had been shot in the head.

Frank Joyce, the solicitor for Iqbal, did not make an application for bail.

Magistrates' chairman Peter Evans agreed to the prosecution's request that Iqbal be remanded in custody until Friday, November 27.

Reporting restrictions were not lifted.

Police started a murder inquiry after an off-duty policewoman out walking her dog found dismembered parts of Mr Ahmed's body in carrier bags in woodland off Briestfield Road, Dewsbury, on Friday, November 13.

Further searches in the Huddersfield, Holmforth and Elland areas uncovered more of his body parts.

The search for further remains moved to Derbyshire today as police divers began trawling a reservoir off the A6024 Woodhead Road, near to Glossop in the High Peaks.

Mr Ahmed owned the Sultan restaurant in Holmfirth, near Huddersfield. His family have a number of business interests, including a restaurant in Lumb Lane, Manningham, Bradford, and two hairdressing salons.

A former pupil of Belle Vue Boys School, Mr Ahmed was married and had three boys and three girls - all aged under 18.
