Redundant road signs left after the recent traffic-calming work on the A65 through Ilkley should be removed as soon as possible, according to the Civic Society.
"They present a very sad and untidy advertisement to the delay in completing this relatively minor scheme," said Civic Society chairman Bob Tilley.
He has written to the Government's Highways Agency about signposts left on both sides of Wheatley Lane which had previously held speed limit signs, urging it to get on with the job of removing them.
He said the posts had recently been disconnected from the electricity supply and should be taken away before the first anniversary of the beginning of the scheme which is looming.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency said the delay was caused because another old sign in the area needed to be replaced and contractors were waiting for the new one to be delivered.
Once it arrives the work of putting it up and removing all the old posts would be carried out simultaneously.
The spokesman said the work should be completed within the next couple of weeks.
