Customer service has helped a former one-man firm turn into a multi-million pound business 35 years down the line.
The Label Makers, based in Prince Street, Bradford, was started in October, 1963 by John Webster who bought an overprinting machine which was housed in a two-room cottage. The company's first year turnover was £11,500.
Today, the company is a multi-million pound business which employs 60 people and has a turnover of more than £4 million.
The firm has completed a 10,000 sq ft extension this year and installed a new £10,000 press which can carry out litho and screen printing functions.
The company is still under family control, with John Webster, who still takes an active interest, handing over the reigns to his son, David, who is the current managing director.
Kevin Lyons, the firm's sales director, said the company's philosophy had also remained the same.
He said: "We are a fiercely independent company that has always believed in providing a first class personal service for every customer, however large or small.
"This is coupled with our insistence on producing a high-quality product at an extremely competitive price.
"We are convinced this simple business philosophy is the key to our success."
The firm also prides itself on regularly updating its machinery and investing in new technology.
Mr Lyons heads up a sales team which covers the country.
In the last six months he has been responsible for implementing a strategic marketing plan targeted at specific industry sectors such as food and drink firms and pet food manufacturers.
"It is a strategy that has reaped dividends, opening up new accounts and generating thousands of pounds of new business," he added.
David Webster added: "We are currently well set up to move confidently into the new Millennium but we shall not be resting on our laurels.
"We are a forward-thinking company eager to grasp new opportunities as and when they arise."
