Residents are to be consulted over traffic calming proposals for two Skipton accident blackspots.
Plans including cycle lanes for Broughton Road and cutting out school buses on the four-school Gargrave Road were considered by North Yorkshire County Council this week.
Councillors called for public consultation to help create a long-term traffic plan for the town.
Highways officials had proposed cutting the speed limit to 30mph and providing formal on-street parking along Broughton Road.
They also suggested pedestrian islands near Skipton Girls High School on Gargrave Road, and narrowing the road with parking bays.
Councillor Mike Doyle, who wants to see Skipton becoming more friendly to pedestrians and cyclists, put forward alternative proposals. He called for cycle lanes in Broughton Road, along with coloured surfacing and flat road humps near Skipton station. He also suggested banning buses from stopping outside Ermysted's Grammar School in Gargrave Road.
The Area 3 Highway Sub-committee decided to start a consultation exercise, involving residents, the Chamber of Trade and Town Council.
